CBT Therapist in Kars Ontario

CBT Therapist in Kars Ontario

Practical, Evidence-Based Therapy to Help You Feel More in Control

If you’re feeling stuck in a cycle of worry, self-doubt, or negative thinking, you're not alone. Life can be overwhelming, and sometimes the way we think about our experiences makes things feel even harder. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can help you break those patterns and feel more grounded, focused, and empowered.

As a CBT therapist serving Kars, Ontario, I offer a supportive and structured approach to help you better understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Together, we can identify what’s keeping you stuck and build tools that bring real, lasting change.

My name is Melanie Brennan, and I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) at Mindful Paths Therapy. I provide individual therapy for adults using CBT and other evidence-based approaches, both in person at our Manotick office and virtually throughout Ontario.

About Me — Melanie Brennan, RP

I specialize in working with adults who are navigating anxiety, stress, depression, low self-esteem, and life transitions. CBT is a key part of my approach because it’s practical, effective, and focused on what you can control.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed by constant worry, stuck in self-critical thought patterns, or exhausted by trying to meet everyone’s expectations, CBT can give you the skills to respond differently.

My style is warm, collaborative, and supportive. I’ll work with you to understand your goals and tailor our sessions to meet your needs. I also offer therapy in both English and French, so you can choose the language you're most comfortable with.

What Is CBT and How Does It Work?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented form of psychotherapy. It helps you identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns and replace them with healthier ways of thinking and responding.

CBT is based on the idea that how you think affects how you feel, and how you feel affects what you do. By shifting the way you think, you can reduce emotional distress and improve how you cope with daily challenges.

It’s commonly used to treat:

  • Anxiety and panic
  • Depression
  • Perfectionism
  • Social anxiety
  • Low self-esteem
  • OCD and intrusive thoughts
  • Stress and burnout

In our sessions, we’ll work on building awareness of your thoughts, recognizing thinking traps, and learning concrete strategies to support emotional and behavioural change.

What to Expect from CBT Sessions

As a CBT therapist near Kars, I take a flexible, client-focused approach. While CBT provides a strong framework, we’ll always move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Here’s what therapy might look like:

  • Exploring your current challenges and identifying thought patterns that are keeping you stuck
  • Learning to recognize negative or distorted thoughts
  • Developing healthier, more balanced ways of thinking
  • Practicing real-life strategies for managing stress, anxiety, or low mood
  • Building tools you can use between sessions to support long-term change

CBT is active and skills-based, so you’ll likely receive exercises or reflections to work on between appointments. But it’s also deeply supportive—this is your space to process, reflect, and grow.

How CBT Can Help You

CBT offers practical tools to help you:

  • Reduce anxious or depressive thinking
  • Feel more confident and capable in daily life
  • Improve your emotional regulation
  • Respond to stress with greater clarity and intention
  • Let go of perfectionism or self-criticism
  • Build a stronger sense of self and purpose

If you're ready to feel more in control of your thoughts and emotions, CBT can offer real, evidence-based support.

Whether you live in Kars, Ontario or nearby, I’m here to support you with therapy that’s grounded, respectful, and tailored to you.
