DBT Therapist in Manotick Ontario

DBT Therapist in Manotick Ontario

When Emotions Feel Like Too Much

Do your emotions feel overwhelming, like they take over before you even have a chance to process them? Maybe you find yourself reacting in ways you don’t fully understand. One moment you’re fine, and the next you’re anxious, angry, or completely shut down.

You might be tired of the rollercoaster, of trying to keep it together on the outside while things feel chaotic on the inside.

If this resonates with you, you’re not alone. I’m Melanie Brennan, a Registered Psychotherapist (RP), and I offer DBT-informed therapy in Manotick, Ontario for individuals looking to better understand their emotions, strengthen relationships, and live with more stability and purpose.

Hi, I’m Melanie Brennan, a Registered Psychotherapist (RP), and I provide CBT therapy for anxiety in North Gower and surrounding areas. I’m here to walk alongside you as you navigate life’s stressors, find clarity, and begin to feel more like yourself again.

What Is DBT?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a structured, evidence-based approach that helps people regulate emotions, manage stress, and build healthier interpersonal skills. Originally developed for individuals experiencing intense emotional responses or difficulty with relationships, DBT has since helped people across a wide range of challenges, including:

  • Emotional dysregulation
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Depression and mood swings
  • Impulsive behaviours
  • Self-criticism and low self-worth
  • Struggles with boundaries and relationships

You don’t have to meet a specific diagnosis to benefit from DBT. If you’re feeling stuck in painful patterns, this approach can help you learn new ways to cope, communicate, and care for yourself.

My Approach as a DBT Therapist

In our sessions together, I use DBT-informed therapy to help you:

  • Learn practical tools for managing overwhelming emotions
  • Build distress tolerance so you can navigate difficult situations without feeling like you’re falling apart
  • Strengthen mindfulness and awareness so you can respond instead of react
  • Improve communication and relationship skills
  • Increase self-acceptance while also working toward meaningful change

I combine DBT strategies with compassion-focused and trauma-informed care. Therapy with me is always collaborative, paced according to your comfort, and grounded in real-life application, not just theory.

Who I Work With

I support adults who are:

  • Emotionally sensitive or reactive
  • Feeling stuck in self-defeating patterns
  • Trying to manage conflict, anger, or shame
  • Living with anxiety, depression, or chronic stress
  • Wanting to build better boundaries and stronger relationships
  • Looking to feel more in control of their emotions

You may have tried other approaches in the past or feel like nothing has helped long term. DBT offers a different kind of structure—focused on practical skills and small, consistent change over time.

What You Can Expect in Therapy

Sessions are 50 minutes and take place in a calm, private setting at my office in Manotick. I also offer virtual therapy for individuals across Ontario, depending on your needs and preferences.

Together, we will:

  • Identify what’s keeping you stuck and how you want to feel instead
  • Explore thought and behaviour patterns that no longer serve you
  • Practice new emotional regulation tools between sessions
  • Build a sense of agency, resilience, and self-trust

You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to show up, as you are.

Real Change Is Possible

It can feel discouraging when your emotions seem to work against you instead of with you. But with the right support, change is absolutely possible.

Clients I work with often describe:

  • Feeling more balanced and less reactive
  • Being able to pause before acting on strong emotions
  • Greater emotional awareness and confidence
  • More satisfying and respectful relationships
  • A stronger connection to themselves and their values

If you’re looking for a DBT therapist in Manotick, Ontario, I’d be honoured to support you in this journey.

Let’s Take the First Step Together

Therapy doesn’t have to be intimidating. It’s simply a space for you to slow down, feel safe, and do the work you’ve been meaning to do for yourself.

  • In-person therapy sessions in Manotick, Ontario
  • Virtual sessions available across Ontario for individuals
  • Flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends
