Stress and Boundaries Therapist in Ottawa Ontario

You Don’t Have to Keep Saying “Yes” When You Want to Say “No”

Maybe you’ve always been the reliable one, the helper, the one everyone turns to. You’re juggling work, family, social obligations, and quietly pushing aside your own needs. You tell yourself it’s fine, but deep down, the stress is building. You’re burned out, resentful, and running on empty.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Many of the clients I work with feel trapped in the cycle of doing too much and never feeling like it’s enough. They want to slow down, set boundaries, and finally breathe, but don’t know where to start.

I’m Melanie Brennan, a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) offering stress and boundaries therapy in Ottawa, Ontario. I help people untangle the pressure, set clear boundaries, and create more balance in their lives.

Why Boundaries Matter (Especially When You're Stressed)

When we’re overwhelmed, the last thing we feel capable of doing is saying no. But the absence of boundaries often fuels stress, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion.

Some signs you might be struggling with boundaries:

  • You say yes even when you’re exhausted or overwhelmed
  • You feel guilty when you take time for yourself
  • You avoid conflict by agreeing to things you don’t want
  • You feel resentful but aren’t sure how to speak up
  • You take on too much and struggle to ask for help
  • You find it hard to relax, even when everything is “done”

Therapy can help you shift out of survival mode and start living from a place of intention, not obligation.

How I Help as a Stress and Boundaries Therapist

My approach combines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and values-based exploration. Together, we work to uncover the patterns that keep you stuck in overgiving and people-pleasing and replace them with tools that support emotional balance and self-respect.

In our sessions, you’ll learn how to:

  • Recognize your stress triggers and automatic responses
  • Set boundaries without guilt or second-guessing
  • Communicate your needs with clarity and confidence
  • Develop tools to manage emotional overwhelm
  • Rebuild your connection to rest, purpose, and self-worth

Sessions are available in person at my Manotick office, a short drive from Ottawa, and virtually for individuals across Ontario.

Who I Work With

I work with adults who are:

  • Burned out from work, caregiving, or high-performance expectations
  • Caught in patterns of people-pleasing and self-neglect
  • Navigating life transitions, career stress, or strained relationships
  • Seeking a better work-life balance but unsure where to start
  • Struggling with chronic stress, anxiety, or emotional fatigue

You don’t have to wait until things fall apart to get support. If you’re feeling overwhelmed now, therapy can help you take meaningful steps toward calm, clarity, and confidence.

What You Can Expect From Our Work Together

You can expect a space that’s calm, compassionate, and grounded in respect. My role is not to judge, fix, or tell you what to do, but to help you hear your own voice more clearly.

Together, we’ll work at your pace. Whether you want to set firmer limits with others, manage stress better, or reconnect with your own needs, we’ll build the path forward one step at a time.

Therapy That Respects Your Life

I know your time and energy are limited. That’s why I offer flexible scheduling with daytime, evening, and weekend appointments, and the option of virtual therapy for individuals across Ontario.

If you’re looking for a stress and boundaries therapist in Ottawa, Ontario, I’d be honoured to support you in creating the space you need to feel more like yourself again.

Take the First Step Today

Setting boundaries isn’t selfish. It’s essential. And learning to manage stress isn’t about becoming “less busy.” It’s about choosing where your energy goes and how you care for yourself.

If you’re ready to explore how therapy can help you reclaim your time, your voice, and your well-being, I’m here.
